The Weekly Photo Challenge from the folks on The Daily Post at http://dailypost.wordpress.com/2014/01/31/photo-challenge-object/ is Object.
To me the word ‘object‘ always conjures up the expression objet d’art. So here, without further ado, are a few art objects. The first is an American cut-glass punch bowl displayed at the Indianapolis Museum of Art.
The next is a piece by French potter Taxile Doat (1851-1939) on display at the Saint Louis Art Museum. Coincidentally, on the very day that we were looking at these objects, our daughter called to tell us that she had just acquired some pieces by someone called Taxile Doat and did I know anything about him. I was very pleased to be able to tell her that I was standing right next to some of his work.
A porcelain, triumphal vase made by Taxile Doat in 1904, also on display at the Saint Louis Art Museum.
A figurine that I especially liked at the Saint Louis Art Museum was this 16th century ‘Seated Figure of the Official of Earth’ made of bronze and weighing over 2,000lbs.
The Carlton Chair made of willow, aspen and gold leaf by Clifton Monteith caught my eye at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum in Wausau, Wisconsin.
