Here, in response to the Weekly Photo Challenge from the folks at The Daily Post at http://dailypost.wordpress.com/dp_photo_challenge/summer-lovin/, are just some of the things that I love about summer. First and foremost, eating ice cream!
Visiting the farmers market. Most towns in the area hold a farmers market during the summer months. The fruit looks very tempting but I nearly always end up buying something from the bakery stall. Mum and I never went anywhere without buying some kind of cake or cookie.
Visiting the Chicago Botanic Garden Kite Festival which this year is being held on August 9th & 10th.
Spending the day at Arlington Park racetrack. A great place to visit, even if you don’t enjoy having a little flutter. I’m not much good at picking out the winners but I love to watch the horses and the people at the track.
Sunflowers! Even the name sounds happy and full of the joys of summer
Ailsa’s Travel Theme challenge this week on Where’s My Backpack at http://wheresmybackpack.com/2013/08/16/travel-theme-big/ is Big. I guess there really isn’t anything bigger than the sky but so many of us are hemmed in by buildings and/or trees that we rarely get to see the big picture. I don’t very often take photos of the sky just for its own sake but this shot, captured one summer on a trip to Wisconsin was too good to pass up; a perfect combination of white clouds and blue sky.
